Stories derived from bamboo culture and the nature material became my obsession.
One cup and two pieces 一盅兩件（天下為籠；破半作息）
70cm x 70cm x 60cm Bamboo, wood, rattan 2021 “Two pieces in one” is the idea of the artwork. Two pieces do not mean “dim sum”, but two pieces of furniture, including a tea table and a chair. By combining both, it will become a giant steamer. Artist wrote a few words for the artwork - “天下為籠；破半作息。”, which means if the whole world is a cage, then break it in half to take a break.
The outline of the steamer refers to the Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower, while the internal structure is based on the traditional steamer craftsmanship. It is divided into seven parts, including three steamers (small, medium and big) and a lid. All of them are attached with the "inlays" which is the same as a traditional steamer, allowing the steamer to be stacked up. Inkgo learned steamer making from Master Mr. LIU Ming from 2020. And this is her first steamer creation.
Through the work, she would like to express her gratitude to the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong and it is an honour to be one of artists passing it on.
